The Future Viewers

The Future Viewers is a series of metal sculptures that offer a glimpse into the year 2070. By peering through the openings of these large, futuristic viewfinders, two distinct scenes are revealed.
Inspired by challenges such as rising sea levels and declining soil quality, designer Liselot Cobelens presents two visions: a city by the sea (due to sea level rise) and a city where agriculture takes place on buildings. Despite the vibrant imagery, the dangers are evident for those who look closely.
But how do residents themselves envision the future of their city?
Where do they see improvements, challenges, or opportunities? To explore this, Cobelens engaged in conversations with local residents and gathered their imaginations. Based on this input, she created a final collage, where the future visions of the city of Breda, as imagined by its residents, come together.
