A landscape in motion

The Brabant landscape is never finished. For centuries, natural processes and human choices have shaped it again and again: from heathland and sand drifts to fields, forests, and villages. Roads, canals, and railways cut through the land, but at the same time brought connections and opportunities. Every generation left its mark—and even now, our choices determine what tomorrow's landscape will look like.

Terra Brabant is a spatial installation by Studio Liselot Cobelens, commissioned by the Province of North Brabant. The carpet depicts the layered nature of this landscape: rivers connecting city and nature, hedges and wires marking boundaries but also showing cohesion, and landscapes that constantly influence each other.

As a visitor, you become part of this living landscape. As you wander across the carpet, you experience how stories from the past and present come together. At the interactive wall, you choose your role—caretaker, innovator, preserver, connector, or enjoyer—and add color to the work by adding a thread. Each choice contributes to a growing work of art that, together with all visitors, develops into a collective image of Brabant.

The guestbook is also part of this journey: a place where you can leave your thoughts, memories, and ideas. In this way, every visitor leaves a trace, not only in the artwork itself, but also in the stories associated with it.

Terra Brabant is therefore more than just a work of art to look at. It is an invitation to participate, to weave together and to enter into dialogue with the landscape. A mirror of our past, a conversation in the present and a promise for the future.
